Cancer patient: People will die because of NHS changes

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Twenty-five different cancer treatments will no longer be available to new sufferers, after a special NHS scheme had its funding for them removed. The news follows findings that The Cancer Drugs Fund - setup in 2010 to provide medication not routinely available on the NHS in England - was going to be one hundred million pounds over budget. Cancer sufferer Clive Stone MBE, whose campaigning led to the Cancer Drugs Fund being setup, has battled 34 brain tumours, currently has kidney cancer and lost his wife to cancer. He says that people will die as a result of the changes to cancer care. A Department of Health spokesman said the changes would allow "new and better drugs" to be offered to patients. This clip is originally from Phil Williams on Monday 12 January 2015.
