Frank Robinson from Horton Bank Top, Bradford, was 19 when VE Day was declared. In 1944, he had been called up to work in the coal mines as a Bevan Boy. It鈥檚 not something he remembers with great fondness. Frank had been at college training to be a teacher. Though he fully expected to be called up, he would rather have joined the armed forces. VE Day for Frank signalled life going back to normal and the anticipation of his D-mob date so he could go back to teacher training. He remembers going into the centre of Bradford to Centaury Square, under the shadow of the Town Hall. He recalled the joy and excitement that people felt. Frank's celebrations consisted of a beer and an early night. He was back down the pit at 5am. Image: Frank then and now.
