Robin Jones was 9-years-old on VE Day and was living in Sutton, South London. He went to central London to join the celebrations. Robin has vivid memories of the journey to Buckingham Palace and joining the crowds. He describes being lifted onto the shoulders of a soldier so he had a view of the balcony at the palace and describes how he saw the King, Queen and Winston Churchill standing in the middle. He goes onto describe his feelings on VE Day being “hope” and a “bright future”.
