In Canada a Truth and Reconciliation Commission over the treatment of the country's Aboriginal peoples has just published its findings. It took six years and interviews with 6,750 people to conclude that "cultural genocide" took place over a 105 year period in which indigenous children were separated from their families and educated in western ways. Perry Bellegarde is a chief from the Assembly of First Nations, a group that represents Canada’s aboriginal community. He explains the impact of sending children to these residential schools.
