Author Kate Mosse: Women-only prize encourages writers

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The author Kate Mosse, who co-founded the Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction, says the award encourages more women to write. The annual prize has 鈥減ut a spotlight on women鈥檚 achievements. It鈥檚 acted as a touch-paper for discussions across all the arts about women, men and gender and representation,鈥漵aid Mosse. 鈥淓verybody wants to be judged for the quality of their work, not for what they look like, what colour their skin is, what religion they are, what age they are, gender or sexual orientation.鈥 鈥淪ometimes there is a dominant voice鈥 and 鈥渨hat the Women鈥檚 Prize has done [is show] there is exceptional writing by women from all over the world,鈥 added the 53-year-old. This clip is originally from Up All Night on Wednesday 3 June 2015.
