The Conservative former Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Heseltine, has said ministers must toe the government line on the EU to avoid “absolute chaos”. PM David Cameron suggested he expects all members of the government to back him over any EU deal. Lord Heseltine said the country could not be governed unless ministers had a “clear view” the public could “support collectively”. Asked by 5 live’s John Pienaar if toeing the party line would lead to ministerial resignations, he responded: “That’s up to them isn’t it... if people feel that strongly, good luck."
