Teenager "in remisson" from HIV without drugs

Outside Source

Available for over a year

An eighteen-year-old French woman is in remission from HIV -- despite not having taken any drugs against the virus for twelve years. She contracted HIV from her mother around the time of her birth and took anti-retroviral drugs until the age of six. Her family then stopped the treatment. Jonathan Ball, professor of virology at the University of Nottingham, explains why this woman has been in remission for such a long time. Photo: Science Photo Library
