Razia Jan was born in Afghanistan and came to the US in the 1970s to study. When the Soviets invaded her home country, she decided not to return. Then the Taliban took over. It was only after 9/11 and the US invasion that Razia finally decided to move back. And when she did, she embarked on an ambitious endeavour— to open a free private school for young women and girls. Today, the Zabuli Education Centre serves more than 400 students; it provides them free education, uniforms, shoes and meals.
