'Andy', was driven to begging after running out of money on a trip to Edinburgh. Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, he said "all i wanted was the train fare home." Andy, not his real name, said he is "grateful" to the man who gave him £4 along with words of compassion after he collapsed from hunger outside a tube station after spending two days hitchhiking down to London. Since his experience of begging, Andy has given money to beggars as he believes "most people" are genuinely in need. Research by Â鶹Éç Breakfast TV has found that only one in five people arrested for begging in England and Wales is actually homeless.
