The stepmother of an American soldier who tackled a heavily armed gunman on a train in France has told 5 live she's not at all surprised by his bravery. Karen Skarlatos, stepmother of 22-year-old Alek, said he sounded "very tense" in a phonecall after the attack. She described how Alek and his friend Spencer had heard the gunman having trouble putting the gun together in the toilet and decided to "rush" him as soon as they could. President Obama has praised the actions of servicemen Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone, who helped stop the man after he opened fire on a train travelling from Amsterdam to Paris. French authorities have said three people were injured, two of them seriously. The suspected gunman has been arrested. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Saturday 22 August 2015.
