Killing on social media

Newsday

Available for over a year

Following the shooting of a US TV crew on live television yesterday, news of the event has flooded social media. But it's not only updates and links to websites that's been appearing on people's timelines- videos of the event itself unfolding have made their way onto people's screens. This tragedy was documented by both the victims and the perpetrator, the shooter himself wore a head-mounted camera as he shot his former work colleagues. The graphic video was taken down by facebook, but that didn't stop copies flooding people's social media feeds. Newsday spoke to the Baltimore Sun's media critic David Zurawik, who says the event has taken us to a new level of media immersion and intrusion. (Photo: Alison Parker and Adam Ward. Credit:WDBJ7)
