In August the civil rights activist Jesse Jackson was in the UK for a special Magna Carta themed event at the British Library about the present state of equalities and rights in the US and beyond. Over the past forty years the Reverend Jesse Jackson has played a pivotal role in many movements for empowerment and economic and social justice. Twice a presidential candidate and a former Senator, he has acted as a special envoy and diplomat during sensitive international crises, alongside being an activist for social change globally. In this extract UK Black's Devon Daley speaks to Reverend Jess Jackson about equality in the US today and his thoughts on the current situation for refugees and migrants coming to Europe.
