The award-winning crime writer Val McDermid says it’ll be a “whole new challenge” for her, adapting John Wyndham’s science fiction novel, The Kraken Wakes, into a live radio event for the 鶹. She told 5 live his books still have “real power and relevance” and it will be the first time she has adapted someone else’s work. The radio production will have a musical score, commissioned by the 鶹 Philharmonic Orchestra, to be performed in front of an audience. McDermid, who has sold 10 million books worldwide, has just released her latest work, Splinter the Silence, which sees the return of psychological profiler Tony Hill.
