Queen Elizabeth II: Local Memories of The Longest Reign
Jim Davis and Jo HaywardAvailable for over a year
Celebrations are taking place across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland as well as across the country today, as the Queen officially becomes Britain's longest reigning monarch! The commemorations include 50 minutes of bells ringing at Westminster Abbey, with bells tolling at over thirty of our local churches this evening. Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 63 years and passes the previous record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. The Queen is the fortieth monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England. Â鶹Éç Radio Leicester's Bridget Blair has been to the Age UK centre in Humberstone Gate to meet some of the users who are about the same age as the Queen, to see what they think about her reaching the milestone.
