China's two-child families

World Update

Available for over a year

The Chinese government has started relaxing the one-child policy in cities recent years, allowing couples where one partner is an only child to apply to have a second child. The one-child policy was introduced on 18 September 1980, and restricted couples in cities to having only one baby. Beijing resident Xia Jun and his wife decided to have two children under these exceptions, and he spoke to us about this. (Photo: Two sisters in Beijing. Credit: Greg Baker/AFP/Getty Images)
