Solidarity for refugees: Thousands join rally

Desi Stories

Available for over a year

Last weekend saw tens of thousands of people marching in London in what was declared a National Day of Action for refugees and migrants. Some carried placards that read "Open the Borders" and "Refugees In" as they marched towards Downing Street and then on to Parliament Square. There were similar demonstrations in other UK cities. The British government has said it will take up to 20,000 refugees over five years, but from camps in the Middle East rather than people arriving in Europe. 麻豆社's Ruchi Tandon was at the march. In this extract she speaks to people along the way to find out why they decided to take to the streets. First you will hear the new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. He addressed the rally in one of his first speeches after being elected.
