US woman held in China for six months 'for stealing state secrets'

Newsday

Available for over a year

Sandy Phan-Gillis has been under house arrest and her family hasn't been able to speak to her for the last six months. Mrs Phan-Gillis was detained in March, during a trade visit to promote the Texan city of Houston. China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei confirmed the investigation and said that Mrs Phan-Gillis was "suspected of carrying out activities endangering national security, and is currently being investigated by relevant departments". Her husband, Jeff Gillis, denies the charges and says that he has no idea why his wife is being held. He has been speaking to Lawrence Pollard. (Picture Credit: SaveSandy.org)
