The 'White Helmet' movement of Syria

Newsday

Available for over a year

Away from the high diplomacy over Syria taking place in New York around the opening the United Nations General Assembly, the conflict in Syria continues. Those caught up in the bloodshed are often helped by members of a movement called Syria Civil Defence, though widely known by their nickname the 'White Helmets'. One of its leaders, Raed Saleh, was on the sidelines of the UNGA meetings. Newsday's Rasha Kashan spoke to him after his speech.
