Could Brittle Bone Disease Be Cured?

Newsday

Available for over a year

Brittle bone disease comes in various forms - but at its most severe, the effects can be devastating. For example, one baby girl in the UK broke 30 bones - and that occurred before she was even out of the womb. When she was born, her feet were not strong enough to support her tiny weight without breaking. Now doctors say they may be able to help those likely to develop the disease by treating them with stem cell injections. And what's remarkable with this is that they may be able to treat babies still in the womb. Professor Lyn Chitty from the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London spoke to Newsday about the possibilities.
