Migrants: the longest route?

Newsday

Available for over a year

The longest route for migrants from Iraq and Syria to Europe may be through a little-known Arctic border crossing between Russia and Norway. In the past weeks hundreds of Syrians have been crossing the border on bicycles, exploiting a loophole in the country's border regulations. The Storskog border, in Norway's far north, is the country’s only legal border crossing with Russia. Trude Petterson is a journalist in the town of Kirkenes nearby.
