"The Astronomer and the Witch"

Newsday

Available for over a year

Does the name Johannes Kepler ring any bells? He was a seventeenth century astronomer who defended the theory that the sun was at the centre of the universe. But do you know that he lived at a time when witch hunts were rampant and that he had to defend his own mother who was accused of witchcraft? Ulinka Rublack is Professor of Early Modern European History at the University of Cambridge and she has reconstructed the whole trial in a book to be published called "The Astronomer and the Witch".
