Antibiotic resistance is a global issue. There have been many warnings that over-use of antibiotics around the world could render them less effective - if not completely ineffective - at treating illnesses. Now a review team in the UK which is looking into the issue says the way forward is rapid diagnostic tests that will help doctors know which patients really need antibiotics - and which don't. Jeremy Farrar is Director of the Wellcome Trust. (Picture: Petri dishes stacked up at a microbiology lab / Credit: AFP)
