Tributes are paid to legendary former Everton player and manager Howard Kendall whose funeral has taken place at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral. There were 1700 people who turned up to pay respects to Kendall who died on 17 October at the age of 69. Amongst those speaking were the current Everton owner Bill Kenwright and former Toffees midfielder Peter Reid. "As a fan - he was the best. He was my kind of midfielder. He was just immaculate," Kenwright eulogised. Reid concluded: "Howard Kendall - the greatest manager in Everton's history." Other well-wishers from the world of football included Sir Alex Ferguson, Roberto Martinez, Jamie Carragher and Wayne Rooney. Kendall also played for Preston, Birmingham and Stoke, starting his managerial career as player-manager at Blackburn. But though he also managed Manchester City, Notts County, Sheffield United and several European clubs including Athletic Bilbao, he will always be remembered fondest for his three spells as Everton manager, leading them to the most successful period in their history 鈥 including First Division titles in 1985 and 1987, the FA Cup in 1984 and the European Cup Winners鈥 Cup in 1985.
