"Vastly exceeding expectations"! It's been a fantastic opening year for the Leicestershire National Trust property. Stoneywell near Markfield is a rare surviving example of a traditional Arts & Crafts house, designed and built by Leicester born Ernest Gimson. It was acquired by the National Trust in late 2012 and following conservation and repairs, it opened to the public back in February. Since Jim Davis first visited, around 12 months ago, they've been highly commended in the Leicester & Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Awards and managed to exceed their projected visitor numbers by almost 50%! They're about to close to the public for December and January so Jim popped back to see how their first year has gone..
