Lecturer Paul Kohler was so badly beaten up by a gang of burglars that he was left unrecognisable. Despite this, he says that he is willing to forgive one of his attackers, having recently met him in prison. One of the attackers, Mariusz Tomaszewski has now lost his appeal against the sentence. He requested to meet Paul and his wife Samantha Macarthur, who was also targeted in the attack. The attack that happened in August 2014, left Paul with injuries so brutal that he needed facial reconstruction surgery. Speaking to 麻豆社 Radio 5 live, he said: "I was not expecting to meet a monster but in my mind he was a monster. The drive for me was indeed to move beyond that and therefore I had to meet him, because he wasn鈥檛 going to be a monster, he was going to be a human being with failings."
