New York used to have a thriving Yiddish theatre scene, but it declined after the Second World War. Di Goldene Kale - The Golden Bride - hadn't been performed for almost 70 years, but a new production of the operetta has just opened there. The artistic director is Zalmen Mlotek and the principal actress Rachel Policar, who has been learning Yiddish for just three weeks. Picture shows Khanele (Jillian Gottlieb) giddily in love.
