Saudi women to vote and field candidates

Newsday

Available for over a year

Saudi Arabia has been bracing up for elections to be held on Saturday. And for the first time in the history of the kingdom, women will be able to vote and stand as candidates in municipal elections. As campaigning ends today, Newsday has asked female volunteer Afnan Khalid Al Haboudai what she's been doing to encourage women ( Photo: Aljazi al-Hussaini, a candidate for the municipal council in the town of Diriyah, on the outskirts of the Saudi capital Riyadh, shows an electoral campaign license issued by the central municipal elections committee.
