The man who hopes to swim the Atlantic Ocean

Newsday

Available for over a year

In January, former British policeman Ben Hooper hopes to make history. He will confront ferocious 15ft waves, killer sharks and thunderstorms to become the first person to swim every mile of the Atlantic Ocean. His swim will begin in Dakar, Senegal and end in Natal in Brazil - and his progress will be recorded every step of the way. The distance is nearly 3000 km long and is expected to take over 120 days. When Matthew Kenyon spoke to Ben, he began by asking him why did he decide to choose this challenge? (Picture: Ben Hooper swimming / Credit: Monika Olday)
