The end of tipping in New York?

Weekend

Available for over a year

The custom of leaving a large tip for waiters and waitresses is as American you might say, as a slice of apple pie for dessert, and it's a custom that's often looked on with bemusement elsewhere. Danny Meyer, one of New York's leading restaurateurs - wants to do away with the practice. He's decided that from now on, his restaurants will increase prices to reflect the fact that "hospitality is included" - without any need for further tipping. Weekend's Julian Worricker spoke to Danny Meyer and asked him why he's so keen to do away with tipping. (Photo: New York restaurateur Danny Meyer. Credit: NICHOLAS KAMM/AFP/Getty Images)
