The ice instruments orchestra in Swedish Lappland

Weekend

Available for over a year

Each December, in the small town of Luleå in Swedish Lappland, work begins on a huge, double-domed hall made of ice. It is a performance space designed for a new kind of musical experience that is only possible in the winter. For three months it plays host to professional musicians from around the world who will come to play an orchestra of ice instruments - part of the Ice Music festival. Tim Linhart is the founder of the festival. He told Weekend's Julian Worricker how this all came about. (Photo: Ice Music in Sweden. Credit: Eivon Carlsson)
