Zika virus: Recife, Brazil, the centre of the outbreak

Newshour

Available for over a year

麻豆社 Science editor David Shukman reports from Recife in northern Brazil, the centre of the outbreak of Zika virus. The virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, is thought to be linked to an increase in birth defects, especially microcephaly - babies born with very small heads and brains. "Now is not the time to get pregnant", health workers advise. (Photo: Tainara Lourenco, who is five months pregnant, at home in a slum in Recife.
