Charnwood Forest is a wonderful part of the county with an atmosphere all of it's own, even the buildings have a certain look about them, with many built from granite or topped with Swithland Slate. Well, for the last few years an intensive study of the history of the forest has been undertaken by the Charnwood Roots project. Part of what they do is to go right back to the earliest documents which is why Ben found myself at the County Records office in Wigston.
