5 Live In ShortAvailable for over a year
A teenager described when his 10-year-old brother was questioned by police over a story he鈥檇 written at school in which he made reference to being hit by a relative 鈥 and said he lived in a 鈥榯errorist house.鈥 The story was part of an English class in which he鈥檇 been told to use his imagination 鈥 and resulted in the child being subject to a safeguarding investigation. The elder brother said he returned to the family home in Lancashire and 鈥溾y brother was crying and I have never seen him cry that bad.鈥 He was being spoken to by a police officer and a social worker undertaking a safeguarding enquiry. The family believe the investigation was under Prevent, the Government鈥檚 counter extremism strategy 鈥 although that is strenuously denied by police and social services. The police said it was a safeguarding issue that was dealt with in a low key and proportionate way. It quickly established there was no need for any further action. This clip is from 5 live Investigates Sunday 20 March 2016.
