Newsday

Available for over a year

Syrian government troops have been carrying out an offensive to retake control of the city of Palmyra. Famous for its ancient ruins, Palmyra was seized by the group calling itself Islamic State in May last year. Khaled Al Homsi is currently on the Turkish border but his family is still in Palmyra. He told Â鶹Éç Newsday what he'd been hearing from the city : (Caption: Syrian troops stand next to a mansion belonging to the Qatari royal family in the ancient city of Palmyra on March 24, 2016.
