In a novel approach in the fight against tuberculosis, pouched rats - already used to sniff out landmines - are now being trained to detect TB in crowded prisons in Tanzania and Mozambique. Charlie Richter, the US director of APOPO - the non-governmental organisation behind the project - explained how the rats are trained for this.
