Newsday

Available for over a year

Palmyra, the ancient city in Syria lies in ruins after the so-called Islamic State blew up some of the world famous temples and ancient buildings there. The town was recaptured by government forces ten days ago and one of those who has been to see what remains is Bryan Denton, a photographer from the New York Times. He talked to Newsday's David Whitty about some of the photos he took, including one of the decomposing body of a fighter in the sand he passed on the outskirts of the town.
