Just a few days after thousands of people took the streets of the capital Harare to protest against poverty and corruption, Zimbabweans are today marking 36 years of independence from Britain. But opposition leaders say there's nothing to celebrate. They accuse President Robert Mugabe of running down a sound economy he inherited from the country's white rulers. Zimbabwe has been without a currency of its own since 2009, and the past few months have seen massive job losses and company closures. Simba Makoni is a former cabinet minister who quit the government and the ruling party in 2008 to form his own political party.
