Grieving dad: Why I shared photo of dying daughter's meningitis B

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The father of two year old Faye Burdett explained why he decided to publish a picture of her final moments, before she lost her 11 day fight with Meningitis B. Neil Burdett was speaking to 5 Live's Colin Paterson. He told Colin that it was only when his daughter was in hospital that they learned of a vaccine, "it hadn't been made aware to everybody that there was something out there that could stop this. And as soon as we found that out, something inside us just said that this is wrong". Neil explained that it was then that the family took the decision to publish a photo of Faye, "we kind of felt that people need to be able to visualise meningitis, they need to be able to see it. They need to be able to see what damage this does. It was a hard decision obviously, but we felt it's the only way of making a change". Faye died on Valentine's Day. This clip is from Afternoon Edition on 25th April 2016.
