Nigeria's president orders crackdown on cattle raiders

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a crackdown by the security forces on Fulani herdsmen accused of violent attacks. For years now the herdsmen have been blamed for a wave of violence in farming areas in Central and Eastern Nigeria over water sources and grazing land for their animals. But the most recent assault was in the south-eastern state of Enugu on Monday. People in the south were alarmed and took to social media sites in protest as it emerged that dozens were killed. So what will the President's order mean now? Focus on Africa's Akwasi Sarpong put the question the president's spokesperson Garba Shehu. (Picture credit: EMMANUEL AREWA/AFP/Getty Images)
