Weekend

Available for over a year

This month the winner of the prestigious Man Booker International Prize will be announced. Weekend is featuring all six of the shortlisted books before the winner is announced. The prize gives equal recognition to the writer and translator of the winning book. A General Theory Of Oblivion is written by Jose Eduardo Agualusa and translated by Daniel Hahn. Set during the Angolan Civil War, the book tells the story of an agoraphobic Portuguese woman. Weekend's Paul Henley is joined by Daniel Hahn and on the line from Lisbon by its author Jose Eduardo Agualusa who explained that despite the fantastical plot, there were true things in the book: (Picture: Jose Eduardo Agualusa.
