Art of steel by Nigeria's Sokari Douglas Camp

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Art produced by Africans, is often given its own genre of 'African Art'. But many in the industry, including Nigerian born sculptor Sokari Douglas Camp loath the term. She is currently showcasing her work at the October Gallery in London. Sokari is regarded as one of the most prolific contemporary artists, transforming steel into large-scale sculptures or thin, delicate colourful works of art. She draws inspiration from the history of the African diaspora, her Kalabari roots, fashion, the current situation in the Nigerian delta, and last but not least, the famous Italian painter, Botticelli. Â鶹Éç Focus on Africa's Jean Otalor has been given a personal tour of her latest exhibition, Primavera.
