Man Booker Shortlist: Translating Nobel Laureate Pamuk

Weekend

Available for over a year

Weekend is featuring all six books shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize, which gives equal recognition to the writer and the translator. A Strangeness In My Mind is an epic novel written by the Turkish Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk, capturing forty years in the life of Istanbul, seen through the eyes of a street seller. Pamuk's translator is Ekin Oklap, a young woman who has never translated a novel before. Weekend's Anu Anand asked her how someone completely new to translation ends up working for a Nobel laureate?
