My grandfather bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Newsday

Available for over a year

President Barack Obama is making a hugely symbolic visit to Hiroshima, the site of the first nuclear bomb in 1945. He won't, though, be making an apology for the bombing, which is credited with hastening the end of World War II. Jacob Beser was a radar specialist and the only US serviceman to fly on both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing missions. His grandson Ari has spent the last 10 months in Japan, and he spoke to Newsday. (Pic - Ari Beser)
