Sniffing out malaria

Newsday

Available for over a year

Scientists are studying the use of dogs in the detection of malaria. Dogs are already used to find missing persons, drugs and even to detect some forms of cancer in people, so this new application has huge potential. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has just awarded a $100,000 grant to continue the study. Newsday's Alan Kasujja spoke to one of the researchers, James Logan from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
