Now here's one for our grammar sticklers. Should primary school children be able to use the serial or Oxford comma? Susie Dent, from Countdown's Dictionary Corner, told 5 live using the comma before an 'and' or an 'or' is a "matter of taste and style", but it should not be marked as wrong. The Oxford comma was deemed to be incorrect by the Department for Education in 2013 after it appeared in a key stage 2 test, even though the answer was grammatically correct. Now tt seems they have had a change of heart and pupils will be allowed to use it after all. This clip was originally from 5 live Drive on Wednesday 1 June 2016.
