The arrest of Mered Medhanie was hailed as a major coup. The 35 year old Eritrean was accused of being the mastermind of an international people smuggling network. Following an international investigation, he was located in Sudan, detained and then extradited to Italy to face trial. But now some believe that the authorities in Italy may be holding the wrong man.
