Soweto uprising: "the struggle continues"

Newsday

Available for over a year

It's forty years since the Soweto uprising of 1976 in South Africa, a time when thousands of black students took to the streets to protest against the apartheid regime and being taught in Afrikaans. Hundreds were killed during the police response, but the student action triggered nationwide unrest and profoundly changed the country's social and political landscape. A survivor of the uprising and students from a Soweto school have been sharing their experiences and outlook on the event.
