Did absence of radiotherapy result in Victoria Akware's death?

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Victoria Akware (pictured) was one of the cancer patients who lost out on treatment when Uganda's main radiotherapy machine broke down beyond repair earlier this year. The Â鶹Éç's Catherine Byaruhanga reports that she has since died. Doctors say they don't know whether the lack of radiation treatment made a difference in her case, but there are still an estimated 33,000 people who need radiotherapy each year in Uganda, and they are not able to access it.
