For years Mark Doyle reported for the 麻豆社 from countries across Africa and beyond - often covering wars, coups and disasters. But he also had the chance to see new democracies, and even new nations, come to maturity. He recently visited South Sudan to help train up a new generation of radio journalists - a task which entailed going deep into rural areas to catch up with cattle herders - and was moved to consider how the reporters' work might help spread democratic values.
