Chilcot report: will be 'illuminating but not new'

Newsday

Available for over a year

Seven years in the making, Sir John Chilcot report on Britain's role in the Iraq war is published today. The decision in 2003 by the prime minister, Tony Blair, to commit British troops to the invasion - following a parliamentary vote authorising military action - was one of the most controversial foreign policy decisions of the past 50 years. Derek Harvey - a former military adviser to coalition forces and to US General Petraeus on Iraq - told Newsday's Lawrence Pollard the report will change little.
